Premiering at 7:00 AM JST on June 6 — a surreal journey in search of a phantom flower
Japanese rapper SOMAOTA and electronic producer Funny Factures team up for their latest single “Alter Ego (feat. 空音),” accompanied by a striking, cinematic music video premiering June 6 at 7:00 AM JST on YouTube.
The video draws inspiration from classic American road movies, following SOMAOTA and featured artist 空音 (Soraone) on a mysterious journey to find an imaginary flower.
Directed by longtime collaborator Takuro Mori, the MV completely foregoes lip-syncing, opting instead for visual storytelling that feels more like an art film than a traditional music video.
“I wanted people to watch it before heading off to school or work,” SOMAOTA says.
“It’s about searching for something that may or may not exist—something emotional, symbolic, even spiritual.”

About the Artists
SOMAOTA
MC of Kansai-based hip-hop collective Black petrol, SOMAOTA has appeared at SUMMER SONIC 2023, FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2024, and China’s largest music festival, STRAWBERRY MUSIC FESTIVAL.
As a solo artist, he has also performed across Asia, including at Neon Oasis Fest. in Taiwan, 亞熱帯 Vol.2, and Yuinote 2025 in Japan.
Known for introspective lyrics rooted in everyday life, he moved to Tokyo in 2024 to focus on his solo career and successfully held his first headlining show, “SOMAOTA ONE-MAN SHOW Trans”, in November.
Funny Factures
Funny Factures is the solo project of Koji Shibano, a drummer and electronic producer who has toured in New York, China, and Taiwan, and worked as a support drummer for The fin.
Under this alias, he’s collaborated with BROTHER SUN SISTER MOON, Wuinguin, and Kazuya Takenouchi. His 2024 EP “Keep Life” draws on UK Garage and UK Drill, blending emotional momentum with technical finesse.
