Globally acclaimed singer-songwriter Fujii Kaze has released his latest single, Hachikō.
The track serves as the lead single from his upcoming third album, Prema, scheduled for release on September 5.
A story of Hachikō, told not through sorrow—but through joy.
Hachikō marks a new creative approach for Fujii Kaze—it’s the first song he’s ever written starting from the beat.
The idea sparked during a casual moment in a session with international songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr.
Someone asked, “What’s the name of that dog in Shibuya again?”—to which Kaze replied, “Hachikō… maybe?”
Right then, Sir Nolan started building the beat on the spot.
“After watching the film The Tale of Hachikō, the song just started to come together naturally.
The melody and lyrics floated up effortlessly.
I didn’t want to focus on the sadness—I wanted to capture the joy of reunion in the afterlife instead.
In a way, maybe that also reflects everyone who’s been patiently waiting for my album too, right? (laughs)”
says Fujii Kaze.
Producer 250 joined in to help refine the final version, resulting in a track polished down to every detail.
A sparkling disco-pop track where English and Japanese intertwine.
Hachikō is a bilingual track, primarily sung in English with touches of Japanese woven throughout.
Shimmering synths, a groovy bassline, and a head-nodding disco beat come together, pulling listeners in with its catchy chorus: “You’ve been patiently waiting for me.”
Following the fan-favorite Michi Teyu ku (Overflowing) released in 2024, this new track marks yet another evolution in Fujii Kaze’s ever-expanding sound.
Prema, his first album in three years, features lyrics entirely in English.
